Essay on Attending Church

April 11, 2010

Everyone wants to be on the plus side of the sine curve; the side that is winning in the “game of life”;
The side that leads to the ethical yet prosperous way. For these reasons and many others people of all ethnic backgrounds and
in every kind of situation in life choose to attend church at least once a week. For wellness of being or profit
of wealth going to church is the right choice. Although many are seen as hypocrites who choose God because
He butters their bread, I would say those who are involved in the corporate climb, the rat-race of American
politics and business are more the ones with compromised principles and values.
Just because the church, most churches, is full of hypocrites and unyielding bigots is not an excuse
not to go. We go to support Jesus Christ, Son of God, Our Savior, God the father almighty who created life
and all things and us included, and the Holy Ghost from whom all good things in life come from and to reach-out to
those victimized by bigotry and hypocrisy. We see hypocrisy and bigotry in the church as an excuse to attend regularly
not as a reason not to attend. We do not go to church to be served but to serve. We do not go to church to get(although
we receive much from attending regularly)we go to give ourselves, our lives, to the One that gave us life. His is the gift of
life and there is none other, blessed be the name of the Holy Trinity forever.
Just because there are many innocent people who sit in the pews petrified in apoplectic fear, who are hurt by others
in the same congregation, is no excuse not to go. Rather it is an excuse to devote more time to that church and reach out
to those in fear and loathing and bring Christ’s love and peace that surpasses all human understanding to them.
Just because you hear abominable, discourteous, even blasphemy preached in the pulpit this too is not an excuse
not to go to church. It is the most primary check and balance on the Pastor’s power that he or she be confronted by his
laity. The reproachful arrogance and ignorance of such clergy is an excuse to do God a favor by having them defrocked
and reported to headquarters of that particular denomination.
Just because you don’t agree with the Catholic Church’s position on certain issues and your parents raised you to serve
Jesus in the Catholic Church is not an excuse to skip the process of confession, acceptance, penance, redemption and joy of
salvation. All the more reason to go to mass and understand Her position on such things. More often than not the church’s position
does not exclude the exceptions to the code(and the church is wise enough to know that there are exceptions)and that you are
looking to the exception as the rule!!!! So be reverent of your Catholic Heritage and attend mass. Most protestant believers
are in church-related activities all through the week not just on Sundays. So attend confession and remember your sacraments
all you wayward Catholics!!!!
Whether you are a singer in the choir, contributor of funds, or just a wayward sinner looking to cop a plea bargain, the church
is a place where you really have a voice and an ear on your mouth. A place where no matter who you are, whether you are sick or
healthy, rich or poor, black, red, yellow or white you can be of help and be helped. A place where you can read the scriptures and
learn to understand their secrets and unlock the door to the wonderful ways of God Almighty who is within us, created us all, and
blesses us all with His divine, compassionate justice and mercy always and in all ways. The bottom line of this essay is that Jesus
didn’t make excuses; he committed Himself to your salvation. Therefore choose the road less traveled and commit yourself to attend
His Church at least once a week…. Amen.
